WILKES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST ALBRIGHT, 71-64
 
READING, PA – The Wilkes Women's basketball team falls to Albright College on the road at the Bollman Center, 71-64.
 
The Lady Colonels slip to 4-7 on the year while the Lions boost their record to 4-8 on the season.
 
The Lions won the tip-off and controlled the first half as they went up 18-11 with ten minutes left to play.  The Lady Colonels cut the deficit to three with 2:45 remaining with a jumper by Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View).  With a minute remaining Albright was up 33-26.  Angela Palmerio (Telford, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored with 17 seconds left and at the break it was Albright 33 and Wilkes 28.
 
In the second half, Albright never looked back as they took their largest lead of the night going up 11.  A free throw by Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) got Wilkes within one with eight minutes left to play, 51-50.  But Albright was too strong as the Lions held off the Lady Colonels 71-64 Thursday night in MAC action.
 
For Wilkes, Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) led the way by dropping 22 points on the evening, a season high.  She also had three steals and two rebounds.
 
Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) had 15 points on the night, as this was her fifth game in a row scoring in the double digits.  Walsh also garnered six total rebounds.  Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) was right behind her as she put up 12 points.
 
Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) continues to lead Wilkes in assists as she had six on the night and acquired five steals.  Pawlowski has increased her number to 62 assists on the season.
 
Kari Ludy was the leader for Albright as she had 19 points on the evening while adding nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
 
Wilkes is back in action this Saturday as they host Lycoming in MAC play.  Tip-off is 1:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
