With the loss, Wilkes moves to 3-1 and 0-1 in Freedom play while the Cougars improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Freedom play. The Lady Colonels started the game hot, abruptly scoring on an easy layup by Stambone off the tip just four seconds into the game. After a pair of Cougar free throws, Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) was worked into the mix, hitting her first shot and only three-pointer of the game to give the Lady Colonels a 5-2 edge at the 18:01 mark. After a Cougar time out, Misericordia began to find their stride and went on a scoring run midway through the first half. After a made free throw by Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) and an Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) bucket, the Lady Colonels led 7-5 before Misericordia went on a seven point run. Wilkes brought it back to within two when Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) scored on back-to-back layups. After a Brown free throw at the 9:27 mark, the Cougars held a 22-14 advantage. After consecutive Misericordia layups, a Stambone three-pointer and a Brown free throw brought Wilkes back to 33-25 with 1:52 left in the half. A layup and pair of Cougar free throws gave the Cougars a 37-25 lead at the break. In the second half, the Cougars remained hot, but the Lady Colonels remained in the thick of things by stellar play from Stambone, Brown, and a mix of others. Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) hit a pair of free throws to bring the Colonels back to within twenty, down 54-34 with 10:32 left in the game. Down 56-34, Wilkes went on an incredible 18-2 run only surrendering a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the game. Jana Martin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Central), Stambone, Edwards, and Brown all contributed points down the stretch as the Lady Colonels fell short in their comeback effort. Brown posted 12 points while Kazmerski and Brown each posted nine rebounds to lead the squad on the boards. Misericordia was led by Lauren Smicherko with 23 points.
