Wilkes improves to 7-3 overall, one more win than the squad had all of last season. Curry drops to 6-3 following the defeat. Everything Kazmerski threw up in the first half seem to be going in as the Kingston, Pa. native hit all seven of her three-point bombs (7-for-9) in the first half single-handedly leading Wilkes to a 44-31 lead at the break. After Curry led by five six minutes into the game, Kazmerski hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Lady Colonels their first lead, 15-14 with 10:56 left in the first half. Two more Kazmerski treys followed by an Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) jumper gave Wilkes a six point lead, 33-27 with 3:44 left in the half. Another three-pointer from Kazmerski and a jumper from Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) extended the Lady Colonel advantage to 42-29. Kazmerski drilled her seventh and final trey of the half with :43 ticks left to give Wilkes a comfortable 13-point cushion at the break. Kazmerski finished the first frame with 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting adding three rebounds and one assist. As a team, Wilkes connected on a season-high nine three-pointers in the opening stanza. With Kazmerski cooling off a bit in the second half, Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) and Stambone made sure the Lady Colonels would leave Florida with a split. Brown canned a mid-range jumper and Stambone drove the lane for two to keep Wilkes up nine, 51-42 with 15:43 left. A layup in the paint from Rich gave Wilkes its largest lead of the contest up 16 points, 58-42 with just over ten minutes on the second half clock. Curry was able to cut the deficit to five following a three-point play from Kylie Beltz, but an Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) three-pointer and Lindsey Chester (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield Secondary) layup sealed the win for Wilkes late in the game. Kazmerski was joined in double figures by Pawlowski who finished with 11 points and three helpers. Stambone added nine points and seven rebounds, while Brown contributed eight points and seven boards. Rich grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass in the win. Curry had four players reach double figures led by Samantha Corcoran's 20 points and 11 rebound performance. Wilkes will return to Pennsylvania for the Holidays and resume action Wednesday, January 2 at Juniata College at 6:00 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa. Print Friendly Version
