With the win, the Lady Colonels improve to 6-2 equaling their total wins from a season ago. Susquehanna falls to 2-6. Rich got things started early, stealing the ball from Jonaida Williams and dishing it to Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) for a game-starting layup. After trading layups with the Crusaders, Wilkes got things rolling. After a Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) jumper, Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) hit her first three-pointer of the day to give the Lady Colonels a 9-5 advantage early. A Kazmerski trey and free throws from Kayla Brahm (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Stambone set the stage for a Rich jumper to give Wilkes the 17-7 lead. A Crusader jumper was erased when Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) laced a jumper of her own to bring the score to 22-10. The Lady Colonels gave up some baskets at the end of the half, but jumpers from Jana Martin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Central) and Brown kept the Crusaders at bay and gave Wilkes the 29-20 edge going into the break. The Lady Colonels and the Crusaders traded jumpers to start the second half, but a three-pointer by Stambone and a jumper from Kazmerski put Wilkes back up by 10. The Crusaders found their stride and scored seven straight points. However, after a Crusader foul, Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) iced two free throws and kickstarted the Wilkes offense to push the lead back to five. Two consecutive Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) jumpers with ten minutes to play pushed the lead back to nine and deflated any thought of a Crusader comeback. Rich went back to work scoring on three of the next six Lady Colonel possessions with Pawlowski scoring on two and Stambone scoring on another. After another Crusader comeback fell short, two consecutive layups by Stambone put Wilkes back into a comfortable 57-48 lead. The Crusaders fouled to stop the clock and try and manage a comeback, but Wilkes hit their free throws and finished the game for a collective team win. Rich led the Lady Colonels by way of 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and five blocks. Stambone continued her stellar play recording 23 points and six boards. Kazmerski and Brown also posted nine points respectively, while Brown blocked six shots. Gina Palazzi had a big game, recording 14 points and a game-best 18 rebounds. Williams added 11 points while Mariah Monahan added eight points and six boards. The Lady Colonels return to action when they travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a game in the Cruzin Classic against the University of Mary Washington on December 18th. Print Friendly Version
