THE LADY COLONELS FALL ON THE ROAD AGAINST MISERICORDIA, 61-45
 
DALLAS, Pa. – The Wilkes women basketball team suffered a 61-45 loss at local Freedom rival Misericordia University Wednesday evening from the Anderson Center.
 
The Lady Colonels drop to 5-15 on the year and 0-9 in the conference.  The Cougars improve to 11-8 on the season and 7-2 in Freedom play.
 
Both teams were neck and neck within the opening minutes of the game.  With fifteen minutes left in the first half Misericordia had a lead of 10-7 over Wilkes.  The Cougars went on a 5-0 run to go up 22-10 led by Jesse Robinson with 10:36 remaining on the clock.  A three-pointer by Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) cut the deficit for Wilkes to nine points, 27-18.  The Cougars closed out the first half on a 4-0 to go up 31-19.
 
The second half was all Misericordia and the Cougars never looked back.  The lead would grow to 20 points with 15:58 left, 45-25.  Wilkes did everything they could to get back into the contest but the Cougars were too strong down the stretch.  A layup by Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) with 23 seconds left got Wilkes within 18 points but Misericordia finished the game strong as they earned their seventh conference victory.
 
Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) led the way for Wilkes as she posted a double-double (13 points and 11 rebounds).  Walsh was 7-for-10 from the free-throw line.  Stambone had 11 points on the night with four rebounds and two assists.
 
Robinson posted a game-high 20 points and seven assists on the floor for Misericordia.
 
Wilkes is back on the court as they host Manhattanville this Saturday from the Marts Center.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
