DAVIDS, PA – Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) posted a double-double but it was not enough as the Wilkes women's basketball team dropped a 67-41 decision at Eastern in Freedom play Saturday afternoon. The Lady Colonels slip to 6-17 on the season and 1-11 in the conference. The Eagles improve to 17-6 overall on the year and 8-4 in Freedom action. Eastern jumped out to a 8-0 lead early in the first half. Wilkes answered back using a 7-0 run with 16:41 on the clock. Both teams were all tied up at 16 when Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) hit a three-pointer with 13:22 to play in the first half. For the rest of the first stanza Eastern controlled tempo. With two minutes on the clock the Eagles took their largest lead of the afternoon going up 18 points, 41-23. A jumper by Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) cut the deficit to 14 points. At the half it was Eastern 43 and Wilkes 28. Throughout the second half of play Eastern continued to stay strong and never looked back. Wilkes did as much as they could to get back into the game. At the ten-minute mark, Eastern led 58-29. The Eagles took their largest lead of the day using a 16-4 spurt to go up by 35 with 5:59 left on the clock. Kazmerski led the way for Wilkes with 10 points and 10 rebounds while adding two assists and two steals. Stambone followed wiith nine points. Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) continued to lead the Lady Colonels on the defensive end. She grabbed 11 rebounds while chipping in two assists. Three players reached double figures for Eastern led by Megan Nowak's 16 tallies and seven rebounds. Wilkes returns home Wednesday, February 14th with a Freedom matchup against DeSales on Valentines Day. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.Print Friendly Version
