WIILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes women's basketball team fell short against DeSales Tuesday evening from the Marts Center, 66-54.

The Lady Colonels drop to 6-18 overall and 1-12 in the conference.  The Bulldogs improve to 14-10 on the season and 9-4 in Freedom play.

There was back and forth momentum throughout the first half.  With 11:18 on the clock two free throws by Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) pulled Wilkes within two points of DeSales, 13-11.  The Bulldogs took their largest lead of the night going up by 10 points with six and change left in the first stanza.  With just seconds left on the clock Wilkes cut the deficit to two points.  DeSales held a slight edge at the half, 29-27.

DeSales took control of the game during the second half.  They jumped out early and went on a 12-0 run.  Wilkes finally reached the scoring column seven minutes into the second frame. With 9:56 to play the Bulldogs held a 14 point advantage, 56-30.  A layup by Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) with just less than two minutes left in the game pulled Wilkes within nine points of DeSales, 62-53.  The Bulldogs were too strong down stretch and closed out the game to earn their ninth Freedom Conference victory of the season.

Three players reached double figures for Wilkes. Connolly posted 16, Allison Walsh (Dickson City, PA/Mid Valley) 14, and Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) with 11 points.  Walsh also grabbed nine rebounds.

Colleen Gavin led the DeSales attack with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilkes concludes its season Saturday when the Lady Colonels host cross-town rival King's on Senior Day at the Marts Center. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. The Lady Colonels will honor their lone senior member, Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty), prior to the start of the contest.
