FDU-Florham posted a 4-3 win in eight innings in game one, then captured an 18-9 victory in game two to sweep the Colonels on the afternoon. Wilkes drops to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in league games. FDU-Florham improves to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in conference games. FDU-Florham won the single nine-inning affair at Artillery Park Friday, 12-10. Wilkes took a 3-2 lead after four innings as Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) singled and advanced to third on a Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) double down the left field line. Marino crossed the plate following a Devils fielding miscue. FDU-Florham tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth when Nick Core homered to left field. The game remain tied through seven innings as the teams headed into extra frames to decide the winner. In the bottom of the eighth, FDU plated the game-winner on an RBI single from Ricky Fandel. The Devils continued their momentum in game two scoring runs in the first six innings of the contest including a five-run fourth frame to take a 12-3 lead. Wilkes responded with six runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 12-9. Pisanchyn connected on a two-run double followed by an RBI single from Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer). A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) then blasted a three-run home run to left field to keep the Colonels within striking distance after six innings of action. The FDU-Florham bats continued to roll as the Devils added four insurance runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to post the 18-9 conference win. Wilkes will have a quick turnaround hosting Penn State Hazleton Sunday at 12:00 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader at Artillery Park. Print Friendly Version
