LADY COLONELS FALL TO KINGS 66-41

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's basketball team fell to King's College 66-41 Wednesday evening at the Marts Center.

With the loss, Wilkes moves to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in Freedom play while the Monarchs improve to 11-4 and 4-1.

After a Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) layup to even the score at two apiece, the Lady Colonels went cold as the Monarchs reeled off 19 straight points before two Brown free throws at the 12:50 mark. Kayla Brahm (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) hit a free throw and Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) was worked into the mix hitting two three-pointers to keep the Lady Colonels in the mix in the first half.

Brown stayed hot in the second half, and Lindsey Chester (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield Secondary) provided a spark collecting a hard fought six rebounds and shooting 2-of-5 from the field for five points. Wilkes went on a small stretch where Brown made back-to-back jumpers before giving way to Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) for a layup. Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer)'s free throw put Wilkes back into the thick of things before the Monarchs went on a run of their own.

King's was led offensively by Celia Rader's 18 points while Katlin Michaels and Lindsay Atchinson contributed 15 and 13 points of their own.

Wilkes was led by Brown's 16 points and seven rebounds while Stambone added 11 points. Edwards collected seven boards while posting two points.

The Lady Colonels will travel to FDU-Florham Saturday for a Freedom Conference doubleheader. The women will play at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow.
