The Lady Colonels stand at 10-9 overall and 2-7 in the Freedom while the Cougars improve to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in Freedom play. The Cougars came out firing strong in the first half, holding as big a lead as 14 points with 3:26 left to go in the period. A Stambone jumper followed by two three-pointers from Stambone on their next possessions brought Wilkes back to within six. After two Hannah Seely free throws, Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) sent a pass to Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) who hit a shot from behind the arc to get the Lady Colonels to within five, at 29-24 heading into the break. In the second half, the Cougars and Colonels battled back and forth on the scoreboard. At the 8:14 mark, Seely laced a jumper before Pawlowski, precariously known for her passing skills, hit a trey of her own to make it a 43-38 game. Up by five, the Cougars responded with a layup to push the lead back to seven before Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) laced two shots from the charity stripe. The Lady Colonels couldn't develop enough rhythm in their offense to make a comeback as the Cougars blew their lead open by hitting their free throws down the stretch. Misericordia was led by Lauren Smicherko and Kayla Sileo who recorded 15 and 14 points. The Lady Colonels were led offensively by Stambone's 15 points. Lindsey Chester (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield Secondary) garnered a team-best 10 rebounds and added six points. Wilkes will return to the pitch Saturday when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. for a Freedom Conference doubleheader at Manhattanville College.
