Wilkes falls to 1-4 overall following the loss while Shenandoah improves to 2-4 on the year. The Lady Colonels built a 34-23 lead in the first half thanks to Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View)'s 15 points. The sophomore standout finished 6-for-9 from the floor during the twenty minute span. Wilkes held the Hornets to just 33.3 percent shooting (9-for-27) in the first half causing eight turnovers with its suffocating defense. Wilkes continued to lead late into the second frame keeping an eight point edge at 50-42 with 6:05 left to play following a Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) jumper. Three minutes later, Shenandoah responded with seven straight points, two inside scores and a long three-pointer to cut the deficit to one, 52-51. After one of two free throws from Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) gave Wilkes a 53-51 lead, Shenandoah's Imani Heggins scored on a driving layup tying the game for the first time at 53 with thirty seconds remaining. Wilkes turned the ball over on its ensuing possession setting up the final sequence for Shenandoah on offense. Heggins found room in the paint on another drive to the hoop netting the go-ahead basket with four seconds left. Wilkes had one last chance at a tie or win, but a steal on the inbound pass secured the victory for the Hornets. Stambone led the Wilkes attack with 21 points and four rebounds. Brown added 10 points and six rebounds. Holly Chittenden led Shenandoah with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Heggins followed with 12 points including the game-winning hoop with under five seconds to play.
