With one game left, the Lady Colonels stand at 11-13 overall and 2-11 in Freedom play while DeSales improves to 17-7 and 9-4 in the Freedom. Wilkes battled the Bulldogs through the opening minutes on made jumpers by Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) and Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer). A Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) dish to Lindsey Chester (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield Secondary) for an open layup with 13 minutes to play made it a tied game at nine apiece. Pawlowski found her first of four assists when she sent a helper to Kazmerski for the bucket that brought her team back to within one, at 19-18 with 4:30 to play in the opening half. The Bulldogs scored eight points to end the half, but the Lady Colonels stayed close with five points on a layup and three free throws from Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) to go into the break down by four, at 27-23. DeSales held a seven point advantage after opening the second half lacing back to back jumpers. With the Bulldogs up by seven, Wilkes made it a priority to work the ball inside to its frontcourt. Chester found Rich for a layup before Pawlowski found Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) for a bucket of her own. Down by three at 36-33, Pawloski found Rich for another layup forcing a DeSales timeout. After the timeout, the Bulldogs scored back-to-back buckets before Stambone countered with a trey to make it a two point game. However, that was the closest the Lady Colonels would get as they had trouble finding the net down the stretch. DeSales heated up and outscored Wilkes 31-15 in the remaining 12 minutes. The Bulldogs were led offensively by Sondrine Glovas' 34 points while Megan Gallagher and Colleen Gavin each added 11 points respectively. Wilkes was led by Stambone's 16 points while Rich added 11. Brown and Rich snagged eight boards a piece while Pawlowski contributed four helpers to currently hold the all-time assists record with 284 career assists. The Lady Colonels will play their final game of the season Saturday when they travel to cross-town rival King's College. The women will begin play at 1:00 p.m. at the Scandlon Gymnasium.
