WILKES-BARRE – Host King's College outscored Wilkes University 39-29 over the second half after taking a three-point lead at the break to post a 67-54 win Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Gymnasium.

Wilkes concludes the year with an 11-14 overall mark finishing 2-12 in league play. The 11 wins is a five-game improvement as the Lady Colonels won six games in head coach Chris Heery's first season in 2011-12. King's improves to 20-5 on the year and 12-2 in Freedom play.

King's opened the contest on an 11-0 run including three three-pointers and a Katlin Michaels layup with 14:56 remaining in the first half. Wilkes responded over the next eight minutes of play thanks to the shooting of Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) as the sophomore sharpshooter accounted for 15 of Wilkes' 20 points. Stambone's transition jumper capped off an 8-0 run that brought Wilkes to within two, 20-18 with 4:20 on the clock.

King's closed the half outscoring the Lady Colonels 8-7 over the final four minutes of play to take a 28-25 lead into the break. Stambone finished the first stanza scoring 18 of Wilkes' 23 points including a 4-for-7 performance from behind the arc.

Wilkes continued the comeback early in the second half as Magan Kazmerski buried a three-pointer from the top of the key to tie the game at 33 with 16:32 left. After a King's miss, Wilkes made the comeback complete taking its first lead of the game when Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) connected on a jumper from the foul line as the Lady Colonels led 35-33 with 14:40 on the second half clock.

King's responded following a timeout using a 10-0 spurt over the next four minutes of play to take the advantage back 45-37 with 11:01 left. A Celia Rader three-pointer and foul capped off a four-point play giving King's a 49-37 lead on the ensuing possession.

Another Rader trey and transition layup upped the King's lead to 54-39 forcing a Wilkes timeout with 8:24 remaining in the game. Another quick 5-0 run all coming by way of Michaels pushed the King's lead to its largest of the afternoon 59-41 with 5:34 left.

Wilkes was unable to cut the deficit under 12 the rest of the way as King's secured the Freedom win in both teams' regular season finale.

Stambone led the Wilkes offense finishing with 23 points on 8-for-26 shooting. Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds while Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) added 13 boards in the contest.

Rader led three Lady Monarchs in double figures finishing with 20 points including five three-pointers. Michaels added 13 points and 10 assists.

Wilkes graduates four seniors including all-time assist leader Pawlowski (290 assists) and eighth all-time leading scorer Kazmerski (1,129 points). The Lady Colonels return several key pieces to the lineup including the conference's leading scorer Stambone in 2013-14.
