WILKES BASEBALL FALLS TO EASTERN 7-6

St. David's, Pa. – The Wilkes University baseball team fell to Eastern 7-6 in a single nine inning game Sunday afternoon.

Wilkes stands at 14-11 overall and 6-9 in league action while Eastern improves to 14-12 and 6-9 in the Freedom.

The Colonels struck first, scoring three runs in the first and third innings. In the first, the Colonels scored all their runs with two outs. Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) walked and Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) reached on an error. Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) singled and scored Lopresto and Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) and Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) hit RBI singles to cap the scoring.

In the third inning, Lopresto again sparked the offense by taking a base on balls. Ruch reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) double. Dantas singled to score Pisanchyn and later scored on a Marino single. Once again, the Colonels plated all base runners with two outs.

A day after Wilkes won on a walk off home run from Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer), Eastern repeated the drama but this time in their favor, when Tyler Orr hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

Orr led the Eagles with two home runs, a single, and two RBI's. The Colonels were led by Pisanchyn's three hit day. Dantas and Marino each added two base hits. Brandon Carling (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge Area) took a no decision, working through 5 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs and picking up six strikeouts. A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Wilkes returns to action when they travel to Reading for a nine inning affair with Penn State Berks. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
