WILKES BASEBALL COLLECTS 18 HITS, BEST PENN STATE BERKS 13-4

READING, Pa. – A four hit and four RBI performance from Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) helped lead the Wilkes University baseball squad to a 13-4 non-conference win over Penn State Berks Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 15-11 overall while Berks stands at 10-17.

Wilkes got things started early, putting a five spot up in the top of the first. Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and Nick Craig (Springfield, PA/The Haverford School) both singled before Scott Skammer (Dallas, PA/Dallas) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) delivered the big blow of the inning, lacing a three run double to left center field. Ring capped the inning with an RBI single.

Berks countered with two runs in the bottom half of the first, before Wilkes scored a single tally in the third. After Marino reached on a fielder's choice, Ring singled him in and advanced to second on an outfield miscue.

In the fourth, Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) doubled to score Craig who walked earlier in the inning. Then, Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) singled to plate Ruch.

In the sixth, the Colonel bats stayed hot putting another five spot on the scoreboard. Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) singled, followed by a Dantas walk and a Marino single. Ring delivered a two run single before Skammer plated two runners on a single.

Craig, Skammer, Marino, and Pisanchyn all collected two hits apiece while Dantas had three base knocks and Ring with his four.

Marc Perry (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore) earned the predetermined win, allowing two runs and striking out five in three innings of work. Eric Hauer (Wapwallopen, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) allowed one hit in two innings of work while allowing no runs as Ring pitched the final inning allowing no base runners.

The Colonels will host Delaware Valley Friday at Artillery Park. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
