FORD BREAKS MILESTONE/LEADS WOMEN'S LACROSSE OVER MISERICORDIA 18-17

DALLAS, Pa. – Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) scored seven goals surpassing the all-time points record while leading the Lady Colonels to an 18-17 victory over Misericordia Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

With the win, Wilkes improves to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. Misericordia falls to 0-13.

Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) laced the opening shot off the draw control to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game. Ford and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) scored to make it a 2-1 game before the Cougars scored eight straight goals. Down 9-3, Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) scored to end the Lady Colonel drought. Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) netted a single tally before Ford scored twice more to give Misericordia the 10-7 edge going into halftime.

The Wilkes offense stayed hot, scoring four straight goals to open the second period. Ford netted two while Smith and Kerr each snagged a goal. From there, at 11-11, the Lady Colonels and the Cougars battled down to the wire, with neither team having more than a two-point lead. With a 17-16 edge, Misericordia scored with 26 seconds left in the game, seemingly putting the game into an overtime period. However, Brownsey had a different idea, taking the next draw control straight to the net, and lacing the game-winner with 16 seconds left in the game.

Misericordia was led by Catie Viegas with four goals. Smith and Kerr each scored four goals while Brownsey connected for two.

Ford, only a junior, led all scorers with seven goals and is currently ranked first all-time in career points with 108, passing Brittney Hodnik's 105 total points set during the 08-09 season.

Brittaney Costigan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) earned the win in goal making nine stops while Erika Proctor garnered the loss making 15 saves.

The Lady Colonels will travel to Madison, NJ for a Freedom Conference matchup with FDU-Florham. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
