Wilkes stands at 20-13 and 9-10 in Freedom play while the Cougars improve to 29-8 and 16-3 in the league. The Cougars built a 4-0 lead, off an RBI double from Julian Faria in the first and home runs from Kenny Durling and Faria in the third. The Colonels responded with a run in the bottom of the third and fourth. In the third, Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) forced a run home when he was plunked with the bases loaded. The Cougars escaped the jam with a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. In the fourth, Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) singled to left center plating Marino who doubled earlier in the inning. Misericordia added two more runs in the sixth off Joe Tagliarini two run shot. Marino gave Wilkes a single tally in the bottom of the frame when he singled to plate Chris Talipski (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge), who pinch ran for Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) after he walked to lead off the inning. The Cougars added single tallies in the 7th and 9th innings as the Wilkes bats were held silent as they were unable to start a comeback. Marino and Ring each had two hits while Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) doubled. Ryan Dorosh earned the win for the Cougars, pitching 5 1/3 innings and striking out six. A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) garnered the loss, allowing four runs in four innings. Wilkes had a quick turnaround, as they travel to Dallas tomorrow for a Freedom doubleheader with Misericordia at Tamblur Field. With an Eastern loss to Del Val, the only way the Colonels can be kicked out of playoff contention, is if Manhattanville sweeps FDU-Florham tomorrow and Wilkes drops both games of the doubleheader tomorrow with Misericordia. If that happens, the Valiants and Colonels would both have the same record in conference, but Manhattanville would own the tiebreaker as they took two out of three in the three game series earlier this season.Print Friendly Version
