Chelsea Brown recorded her 6th double-double on Wednesday evening LADY COLONELS FALL TO LADY ROYALS 65-46 1/8/2014 10:43:00 PM Box Score LADY COLONELS FALL TO LADY ROYALS 65-46 WILKES-BARRE, PA – The University of Scranton Lady Royals opened up a double digit halftime lead in which they did not relinquish as they held on to defeat the Lady Colonels 65-46 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening. The loss drops Wilkes to 2-9 while Scranton improves to 10-2. Scranton opened the game on a 7-0 run and stretched the lead to 17-8 with 14:03 remaining in the half. Scranton went on a 9-1 run to make it 25-11, their biggest lead of the first half, just four minutes later. Neither team would score for nearly four minutes until Wilkes' Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) scored a layup to make the score 25-13 with 6:09 remaining in the half. Wilkes continued the momentum as they reeled off six more points to trim the lead to six at 25-19 with 4:11 to go in the half. Scranton finished the final four minutes of the frame on a 9-4 run to give the visitors the lead going into the break at 34-23. Both teams traded baskets to start the second half. Scranton increased its lead to 17 with 11:49 to play thanks to the outside shooting of Allison Sweeney. The Wilkes defense turned up the pressure and did not allow Scranton to score for six minutes as they trimmed the Lady Royals lead down to six with 5:56 remaining. Jacyln Gantz hit a dagger three-pointer to put the Lady Royals back up nine. Scranton finished the game on a 12-2 run giving them a 65-46 win. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) tied a career-high with 19 points and grabbed 11 boards on way to her sixth double-double of the season. Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals. Stambone now stands just 18 points away from 1,000 for her career. Wilkes shot 15-for-56 (26.8%) from the field and did not hit a shot from 3-point range while going 16-for-28 (57.1%) from the foul line. Meredith Mesaris led Scranton with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sweeney followed with ten tallies on two treys. Sarah Payonk collected a game-high 15 caroms for the winners. Scranton was 18-for-59 (30.5%) from the field, 7-for-28 (25.0%) from long distance and 22-of-26 (84.6%) from the charity stripe.
