ST. DAVIDS, PA – Host Eastern University saw four players reach double figures in a balanced scoring effort on way to a 67-41 Freedom Conference victory over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss Wilkes drops to  5-18 overall and 2-10 in league games while Eastern improves to 13-10 overall, 8-4 in conference contests. The Eagles remain in second place in the Freedom Conference standings behind unbeaten No. 7 FDU-Florham.
 
Eastern wasted little time taking a lead going up 8-0 in the first six minutes of the game. Meghan Nowak capped off the spurt with a layup in the paint for the Eagles with 14:34 on the first half clock. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) finally put Wilkes on the board seven minutes in with a transition layup, and the Lady Colonels outscored Eastern 7-2 over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to two, 13-11, with 7:50 left in the half. Haley Mesaros (Royersford, PA/Pope John Paul II) canned a three-pointer and Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) added a jumper for Wilkes during the stretch.
 
Eastern used a 11-0 run over the half's final 6:44 to take a comfortable 31-15 lead into the break. The Eagles went inside to do most of its damage outscoring the Lady Colonels 20-8 in the paint in the half. Eastern also outrebounded Wilkes 33-16 including 14 offensive rebounds leading to 10 second chance points.
 
Wilkes cut the lead to 14 (35-21) on another Stambone jumper early in the second frame, but the Eagles used another 8-0 run followed by a 13-4 spurt to extend its lead to the largest of the game at 53-27 with 7:39 remaining.
 
Stambone led the Lady Colonels offensively with 14 points on 4-for-17 shooting adding four rebounds and a block in 29 minutes of action. Brown followed with 12 points and seven rebounds. No other Lady Colonels scored more than four points.
 
Emily Lavin topped Eastern with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Kaitlyn Dougherty added another double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Nowak finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while Gina DeDomenico contributed 12 points and two steals.
 
Wilkes returns home Tuesday hosting DeSales University in a Freedom Conference matchup at 6:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
