With the win Wilkes snaps a three game losing skid and sees its record improve to (5-14 overall, 2-7 Freedom). Misericordia falls to (7-12 overall, 3-6 Freedom) on the season. The first half was very competitive featuring six lead changes, seven ties and neither team leading by more than five points in the half. Misericordia led at the half when Sam Baro hit a three-pointer with :13 remaining. The Lady Colonels shot 44.8 percent from the field in the half and were led by Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) and Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) who scored 24 of the teams 32 points. The Cougars shot 46.9 percent from the field and went 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Baro led the Cougars with 11 points while Katie Drayton dished out seven dimes. Stambone hit a three-pointer 1:50 into the second half that helped spark a 13-0 run in which Stambone accounted for 9 of the 13 points. With the big spurt Wilkes built a 47-36 lead. Misericordia responded with a 5-0 run of their own to cut the lead to six but that was all the closer they would get. Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) scored five straight points and Stambone nailed another three-pointer to stretch the lead to 12. Foul shots towards the end of the game helped boost the lead and the final spread of 66-52 was met as the second half buzzer sounded. The Wilkes defense held Misericordia to just 17 points and 15.4 percent (6-39) shooting in the second half rally. Stambone hit three three-pointers in the second half and finished with 14 in the half and 26 points in the game. Rich scored all 10 of her points in the second half and finished with 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Brown recorded another double-double for the Lady Colonels as she finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Wilkes finished the game shooting 45.8 percent (22-48) from the field and 50 percent from long range (6-12). Baro led the Cougars with 16 points while Justine Seely scored nine points and nabbed 11 boards. The Lady Colonels return to action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Manhattanville College to the Marts Center for a Freedom Conference game.
