MAC Women's Tennis Individual Tournament Day One Recap

EDWARDSVILLE- The Wilkes University women's tennis team completed day one of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Tournament at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park courts on Saturday afternoon.

At No. 1 singles, Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) advanced past the quarterfinals by defeating Zoe Foglia of Arcadia University 6-1, 6-2. She will face Ashli Livermore of Messiah in the semifinals.

Two Lady Colonels advanced to the semifinals of the No. 2 singles as Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) posted one win and Grace Graham (Rockville Centre, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) posted two. Vasarkovy defeated Julia Keppel of King's College 6-0, 6-0, while Graham defeated Eastern's Kelly Archibald 6-2, 6-0 and Arcadia's Megan Obarowki in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-3. Vasarkovy will face Megan Meyers of Misericordia in the semifinals while Graham will face Kelly Hopkins of Messiah.

Wilkes also had two players advance in the No. 3 singles, with Taylor Hoffmann (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland) and Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) making it to the semifinals. Hoffman defeated Ariana Freeman of Lebanon Valley College 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, while Hewison defeated Delaware Valley's Natalie Hoffman 6-3, 6-3. Hoffmann will square off against Messiah's Kaitlyn Russell in the semifinals while Hewison will face Victoria Guseva-Micklon of Misericordia.

Two Lady Colonels made the semifinals of the No. 4 singles,  as Madison Salmon (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) defeated Carly Dove of Messiah 6-2, 6-2, and Alanna Denauski (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) defeated Mariah Durrant of Lycoming in the first round 6-0, 6-1 and Albright's Shannon McNerney in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0. Salmon will face Alvernia's Emily Thek in the semifinals while Denauski will face off against Bridget Boyle from Misericordia.

Wilkes had two players advance from the No. 5 singles as well, with Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic) defeating Meagan Scala from Messiah in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0, and Cayleah Markulics (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) defeating Miranda Warunek of King's in the first round 6-1, 6-0 and Danielle Krick of Lebanon Valley in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-0. Volutza will face Cassandra Bean of Alvernia in the semifinals while Markulics will go against Nellie Chmil of Misericordia.

Julia Baranov (Huntingdon Valley, PA/William Tennent) and Lauren West (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) both advanced to the quarterfinals of the No. 6 singles for the Lady Colonels. Baranov defeated Lycoming's Kim Parroccini 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and Amanda Camporeale of Albright in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0. West defeated Eva Fleischer of Eastern 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and King's Maggie Walsh 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Baranov will face Elizabeth Drda of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals while West will face Misericordia's Linsey Parks.

Brittany Stanton (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) advanced to the semifinals of the No. 7 single for Wilkes, as she defeated Christina Endy of Stevenson 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and Gabrielle Belles of Misericordia in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-4. Nicole Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) made it to the quarterfinals where she fell to Amberlynn Habich of Misericordia. Stanton will face Allison Weidman of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals.

Croker and Vasarkovy advanced to the semifinals of the No. 1 doubles tournament, defeating Olivia Hosch and Michelle Shedd of Hood 8-2. They will face Megan Meyers and Bridget Boyle of Misericordia in the semifinals.

The teams of Hoffmann/Baranov and Volutza/ Graham each advanced to the semifinals of the No. 2 doubles. Hoffmann/Baranov defeated Brittany Lenze and Kim Parroccini of Lycoming 8-0 in the quarterfinals, while Volutza/Graham defeated Kaitlyn Russell and Carly Dove of Messiah 8-5 in the first round and defeated Amanda Riff and Hannah Reed in the quarterfinals by virtue of a walkover. Hoffmann/Baranov will face Julia Keppel and Emily Kabalka of King's in the quarterfinals, while Volutza/Graham will face Carly Young and Victoria Guseva-Micklon of Misericordia.

Two teams also advanced to the semifinals of No. 3 doubles for the Lady Colonels. Salmon/Hewison defeated Alexandra Vaccaro and Tess Hansler of Delaware Valley 8-2 in the first round and Samantha Bruckart and Ashley Stover 8-0 in the quarterfinals. They will face Miranda Warunek and Maggie Walsh in the semifinals. Denauski/West advanced by defeating Christina Endy and Emily Ostrander of Stevenson 8-2 in the first round and Allison Weidman and Rachel Duong of Lebanon Valley in the quarterfinals 8-2. They will face Aubrey Fetter and Meaghan Donahue of Hood in the semifinals.

Stanton/Markulics advanced to the semifinals of the No. 4 doubles by defeating Lycoming's Allyson Dugan and Alexandra Rozzi in the first round and Misericordia's Taylor Daton and Ashley Casem in the quarterfinals 8-5. They will face Allison Parkes and Hannah Corbacio in the finals. Gaetani/Smith made it to the quarterfinals.

Day two action will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m.
