Steve Finkernagel Women's Lacrosse 3/5/2015 6:43:00 AM Wilkes Women’s Lacrosse Falls 21-17 against Western Connecticut State Box Score Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Falls 21-17 against Western Connecticut State NEW HAVEN, CT -- Sophomore attack Destinee Carey scored seven goals and the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team held on to edge Wilkes University 21-17 at Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday afternoon. Kelsey Heaton added four goals and an assist for the winners. Sophomore Rachel Heitor also netted four goals for the Colonials. Freshman Olivia Kosilla notched a goal and three assists in her first collegiate contest. Nicole Petruzzi earned the victory in goal after making 10 saves for the Colonials. Wilkes took a 6-4 advantage with eight minutes remaining in the first half before Western scored four straight goals to take an 8-6 lead into intermission. The Colonials, 1-0, never trailed in the second stanza, and led by as many as five goals, 17-12.Wilkes drew within two goals, 19-17 with 2:20 left in the game. After a quick time out, the Colonials scored the final two goals of the game down the stretch. Wilkes continues its opening season road stretch Saturday traveling to SUNY Canton for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.Print Friendly Version
