SWARTHMORE, PA – In a battle of two regionally ranked teams, host Swarthmore College edged Wilkes University 5-4 in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon at Faulkner Courts.
 
With the loss Wilkes, ranked 19^th regionally, falls to 11-2 overall on the season. Swarthmore, ranked 17^th in the region, improves to 2-3 following the home victory.
 
Swarthmore took a 2-1 lead after doubles play taking both the No. 2 and 3 pairs matches. Wilkes lone doubles win came at the top spot where Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) and Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) took their match by a score of 8-5.
 
Croker then added a singles win at No. 1 winning 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) over Alli Wong. Vasarkovy also claimed a singles win at No. 2 taking her match in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Julia Baranov (Huntingdon Valley, PA/William Tennent) was the third and final Lady Colonels winner in singles play taking her match at No. 6 6-4, 6-1. Swarthmore clinched the match with victories at No. 3, 4 and 5 in singles play.
 
Wilkes remains idle through the holiday break returning to action April 2 at Misericordia University to open MAC Freedom play at 1:00 p.m.
