EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team opened its 2016 MAC Freedom schedule with a 9-0 victory over cross-town rival King's College at the Ralston Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.
 
With the win Wilkes improves to 13-2 overall and 1-0 in league play on the season.
 
Wilkes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep)/Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) at No. 1, Taylor Hoffmann (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland)/Julia Baranov (Huntingdon Valley, PA/William Tennent) at No. 2 and Madison Salmon (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott)/Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) at No. 3.
 
Croker earned a win at No. 1 singles over King's Madeline Griffin 6-2, 6-3. Vasarkovy went 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Hoffmann, Salmon, Grace Graham (Rockville Centre, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Alannah Denauski each recorded straight set wins at No. 3 through 6.
 
Wilkes travels to Eastern University tomorrow for a MAC Freedom match at 1:00 p.m. in St. Davids, Pa.
