Seven Singles, Four Doubles All Advance to Semifinals for Wilkes Women's Tennis at MAC Individual Tournament
EDWARDVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team saw all seven singles and all four doubles flights advance to the semifinals at the 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park Courts.

At No. 1 singles,
Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) began her title defense with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jenn Skove of Stevenson. Vasarkovy will face the fourth seed Mara Trifoi of Albright in the semifinals.
At No. 2,
Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) went 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 in her opening match against Megan Carter of Hood College to reach the semifinals. She will face Amber Achenbach of DeSales tomorrow for a chance at the title.
Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sammy Bost of Lebanon Valley at No. 3 singles and will matchup against Kaitlin Hallabuk of Lycoming in the semifinal round.
Top seed
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) reached the semifinals after posting a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alex Rodier of DeSales in the quarterfinals. She faces Emily Wichert of Messiah in semifinal action tomorrow.
Brittany Stanton (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood),
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) rounded out the Wilkes singles players moving onto semifinal action. Each won their opening matches in straight set fashion.
In doubles action, Vasarkovy/Saliyev moved into the No. 1 semis with an 8-4 win in the quarterfinals. Varela-Seri and Zielinski reached the semifinals with an 8-1 win over a King's duo in the quarterfinals of No. 2 pairs. Stanton and Marke went 8-3 after an opening bye at No. 3 doubles to reach the semifinals.
Nicole Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) and
Courtney McCowan (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) rounded out the Lady Colonels semifinal doubles participants after posting an 8-3 win in the quarters at No. 4.
Day two action begins Sunday with semifinal action starting at 9:00 a.m.
