Murphy Earns All-American Status at NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship
CHATTANOOGA, TN – Wilkes University men's tennis standout
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) became the first Colonel to earn All-American status in program history after going 1-1 at the 2017 NCAA Men's Singles Championship on Thursday afternoon at The Champions Club in Chattanooga, TN, hosted by the University of the South and the Chattanooga Sports Commission.
Murphy began the tournament with a 7-6, 6-2 first round win over Coe College's Brady Anderson to earn All-American status and advance to the round of 16.
In the round of 16, Murphy faced top-seed Lubomir Cuba of Middlebury falling 6-4, 6-2 to conclude his record-setting season. The sophomore finished the year 25-5 overall from the No. 1 position.
