Wilkes Women's Tennis Concludes Play at ITA Southeast Regional
FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team concluded play at the 2017 ITA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington late Sunday night.
In singles play
Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) recorded a win over Jenn Skove 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 in the first round of the Blue 1 singles bracket. Saliyev then fell to Brittany McBride of the host Mary Washington 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) participated in the championship singles bracket dropping both her matches 6-4, 6-2 and 8-6.
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) dropped her first match in the Blue 2 singles bracket 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 before taking an 8-2 win in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. Zielinski continued her play with an 8-1 win in the semifinals to reach the consolation finals.
In doubles play, Saliyev and Vasarkovy upset the second seed Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi from Salisbury in the championship doubles bracket 9-7. The duo then fell 8-2 in the round of 16.

Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) were the other Wilkes pair to compete at the event falling 9-8 in the Blue 1 doubles bracket.
