Wilkes Men's Tennis Completes Day One of ITA Southeast Regional
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Wilkes University men's tennis team completed the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regionals hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Saturday.
In doubles play, the team of
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and
Tawhid Choudhury (Holliswood, NY/The Ogburn School) were defeated in the first round of championship doubles by James Baron and Andy Mason of Christopher Newport 9-8 (3).
Artyom Nabokin (Las Vegas, NV/Danvers) and
Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) were bested by Eric Yoo and Nathan Safran of Johns Hopkins 8-2.
In singles play, Nabokin was defeated by Simon Vernier of Swarthmore 6-3, 6-1 in championship singles.
White faced Luke Weaver of Washington College where he was bested 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in B2 singles. Also in B2 sinlges, Choudhury defeated Mitchell Perry of Virginia Wesleyan 7-6 (7-6 [2]), 3-6, 6-1, and will face Kelson Weber of Salisbury in the quarterfinals tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
Murphy, the second seed in championship singles, defeated Jack Hodges of Goucher 6-3, 6-3 in the first round before besting Jack Rothman of Franklin & Marshall 6-2, 7-5 in the round of 32. Murphy will advance to face Carnegie Mellon's Revanth Boppana Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
