KINGSTON – All seven Wilkes women's singles players reached their final on Sunday with five claiming titles in their respective flights. Counting the four doubles titles captured on Saturday, the Colonels reached all 11 finals at the MAC Individual Women's Championships, winning nine titles in all.

Wilkes five singles and four doubles titles at this year's event pushes their all-time totals to 63 and 39 respectively, both the most by any school in the conference.

In the No 3. singles flight, Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) cruised to the finals by dispatching Messiah (6-1, 6-1) before dominating Arcadia (6-1, 6-0) to claim a singles title for the third consecutive year.

Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic) beat Misericordia in the semifinals in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) before running through FDU-Florham (6-2, 6-0) to capture the No. 4 singles title.

Rachel Thomas (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) overpowered Alvernia in her semifinal (6-0, 6-0) before defeating another FDU-Florham Devil (7-5, 6-0) to win the No. 5 singles title as a freshman.

In the No. 6 singles flight, Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) downed Arcadia (6-2, 6-3) in the semifinals on her way to dispatching Alvernia in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) to earn a singles title for the second consecutive year.

Freshman Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) faced little resistance on her way to the No. 7 singles title as she made quick work of Lebanon Valley (6-1, 6-1) before blanking Messiah (6-0, 6-0) to secure her first individual title.

The Colonels No. 1 and No. 2 singles players each advanced to their flight's respective finals matches before ultimately falling one victory shy of the title.

This event concludes the fall season for the Colonels women's tennis team as they return to the court on March 2, 2019 for a weeklong spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C.
