HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University women's tennis team opened its spring break trip in perfect fashion sweeping a pair of matches 9-0 against Nebraska Wesleyan and St. John Fisher on Sunday night.
 
Wilkes swept all three doubles flights in the match against Nebraska Wesleyan allowing just four points total in the three pairs matches. Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) led off singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1. Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 while Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic) added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
 
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern), Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) finished off the sweep with straight set wins at No. 4 through No. 6.
 
Wilkes started up 3-0 again after doubles play this time against St. John Fisher. Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) played in the top singles spot winning 6-0, 6-0. Saliyev, Volutza, Zielinski, Brittany Stanton (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) and Malone all added singles wins to record the second sweep of the day for Wilkes.
 
Wilkes has a day off before returning to the courts Tuesday for a match with Methodist University at 8:15 a.m.
