EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team swept a pair of matches including its first MAC Freedom victory of the season on Friday afternoon in a split squad matchup.
 
Wilkes posted a 7-2 victory over SUNY Oneonta at home at the Ralston Athletic Complex while a split squad traveled to Dallas, Pa. and earned a 9-0 MAC Freedom victory over Misericordia University.
 
Wilkes moved to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in MAC Freedom games following the two event day.
 
In the match at Misericordia, the Colonels swept all three doubles flights before winning all six singles flights in straight sets. Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove), Jack Maline (Northport, NY/Northport), Alec Levin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May), Mike Ellis (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), Isaac Shenton (Saint Thomas, PA/James Buchanan) and Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) all were singles winners for Wilkes against the Cougars.
 
In the win against SUNY Oneonta, Wilkes raced out to a 3-0 lead after pairs competition before taking four of six singles flights. Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus), Artyom Nabokin (Las Vegas, NV/Danvers), Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) and Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) were all singles winners against the Red Dragons.
 
Wilkes returns to the courts tomorrow (Saturday) hosting another two-match day with MAC Freedom tilts against DeSales University and Delaware Valley University at 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. respectively.
