EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team clinched the top spot and home court advantage throughout the 2018 MAC Freedom Tournament after posting a 9-0 sweep of FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
 
Wilkes finished the regular season with an 18-5 overall record and unbeaten in MAC Freedom play at 6-0 on way to the No. 1 seed in next week's tournament.
 
The Colonels jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play and never looked back. Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus), Artyom Nabokin (Las Vegas, NV/Danvers), Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley), Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) and Ryan Simon (Mahwah, NJ/De Paul Diocesan) were all straight set singles winners for Wilkes. Gabriel Velez (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) took his No. 6 singles match 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 10-4 to round out the sweep.
 
Wilkes will host the No. 4 seed which is yet to be determined in the MAC Freedom semifinals on Wednesday at a time to be announced at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
