EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team clinched the top spot in the 2018 MAC Freedom Tournament after claiming a 9-0 sweep of FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
 
Wilkes improved to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in MAC Freedom matches on way to the No. 1 seed in next week's tournament.
 
After taking all three doubles flights, Wilkes earned straight set wins in five of six in singles play to record the conference sweep. Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg), Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South), Erin Volutza (Sinking Spring, PA/Lancaster Catholic), Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) and Brittany Stanton (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) were all straight set winners in singles play for Wilkes. Jordan Vasarkovy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) took her No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 to round out the sweep.
 
Wilkes will host the No. 4 seed who is yet to be determined on Tuesday in the semifinals of the MAC Freedom Tournament at a time to be announced at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
