MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Wilkes University men's tennis team came back from down 2-1 after doubles play to post wins in four of six singles flights to secure a 5-3 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon at the Proctor Tennis Courts on the campus of Middlebury College.
 
Wilkes improved to 21-5 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
 
Wilkes' No. 2 pair of Artyom Nabokin (Las Vegas, NV/Danvers) and Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) began the match with an 8-2 win before Colby-Sawyer recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles respectively to take a 2-1 advantage.
 
Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 before Alex Wright pushed the Colby-Sawyer lead to 3-2 with a straight set victory over Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley). Nabokin collected a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 to tie the match at 3-3 before wins from Ryan Simon (Mahwah, NJ/De Paul Diocesan) at No. 6 (6-4, 6-4) and the clincher from Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2).
 
Wilkes will play host and No. 1 ranked Middlebury College (20-4) Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the round of 32.
