Wilkes Men's Tennis Season Ends in NCAA Second Round Against No. 1 Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Wilkes University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament as the Colonels fell 5-0 against No. 1 Middlebury College Saturday afternoon at the Proctor Tennis Courts on the campus of Middlebury.
Wilkes finished its season with a 21-6 overall record making its second straight trip to the NCAA second round. Middlebury improved to 21-4 overall and advanced to the round of 16 in the tournament.
Middlebury used wins of 8-4, 8-0 and 8-1 in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead early. Single wins from Andrew Xiao and Kyle Schlanger clinched the sweep for Middlebury. Wilkes'
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) was leading 3-0 in his second set of No. 1 singles before the match ended.
