Wilkes Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Bloomsburg Tournament
BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2018-19 season this weekend at the Bloomsburg University Tournament.
The Colonels began play Saturday facing Ithaca College with the team of
Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) and
Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) picking up the first Wilkes victory with an 8-3 doubles win over Colten Lavery and Jon Tuerk.
Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded the Colonels second win in a tiebreak, defeating Michael Gardiner 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 in singles action.
Three-time Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Player of the Year
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) registered his first win of the season on Sunday 6-1, 6-2 in singles action over Ithaca's Liam Spiegel. Joining Murphy in the win column Sunday was
Jack Maline (Northport, NY/Northport) and
Isaac Shenton (Saint Thomas, PA/James Buchanan) as both players picked up singles victories against Bloomsburg. Maline defeated Quin Bucheit 6-1, 6-3 and Shenton knocked off Rafael Rufato in a tiebreak 6-4, 0-6, 14-12.
Wilkes returns to the court on Tuesday, September 25 when they host the University of Scranton at the Ralston Athletic Complex court at 4:00 p.m.
