Wilkes Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Bloomsburg Fall Invitational
BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team concluded play at the Bloomsburg Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon wrapping up a two-day stretch of competition against a pair of Division II schools.
In singles matches against Shippensburg,
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona),
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford),
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock),
Rachel Thomas (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) all recorded straight set wins for the Colonels.
Later in the day, Wilkes faced East Stroudsburg University in singles play and three more Colonels posted wins. Markle, Thomas and Cieri all bested their opponents for their second wins of the day.
On Sunday the doubles team of Malone and Thomas scored an 8-3 win over a duo from ESU while
Nicole Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) and Cieri won 8-2 over a pair from ESU in the other Colonels doubles win on the day.
Wilkes returns to the courts October 2 hosting the University of Scranton at 4:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
