Wilkes Men's Tennis: Ranger Invitational Day 1
MADISON, N.J. – The Wilkes University men's tennis team kicked off its 2019 spring season on Saturday at the Ranger Invitational hosted by Drew University. Day one consisted of doubles play in a round robin format.
Results
In Flight 1 the pairing of Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and Andrew MacDonald (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) went 2-2 on the day, defeating duos from Roger Williams (6-3) and Ramapo (7-6 (5)) while falling to Dickinson (2-6) and Drew (1-6).
Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) and Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) won three of their four matches in Flight 2, picking up victories over Ramapo (6-0), Roger Williams (6-4) and Drew (6-2) with the only setback coming against Dickinson (6-7 (4)).
A pair of sophomores in Larry Scartz (Woodbridge, VA/Home School) and Isaac Shenton (Saint Thomas, PA/James Buchanan) took the court in Flight 3 and split their four matches, coming up victorious over Roger Williams (7-6 (6)) and Ramapo (6-3) while suffering defeats at the hands of Dickinson (3-6) and Drew (3-6).
Senior Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) teamed up with sophomore Mike Ellis (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) in Flight 4 action for a perfect 4-0 day as they earned a trio of 6-3 wins over Ramapo, Roger Williams and Drew while dispatching Dickinson 6-4.
The Colonels sent out two pairings in Flight 5. The duo of Jack Maline (Northport, NY/Northport) and Alec Levin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) went 1-3 in their matches as they picked up a 6-3 win over Drew but fell in matches to Ramapo (6-7 (4)), Roger Williams (4-6) and the other Wilkes pairing of Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) and Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) (4-6).
Angara and Greenman won three of their four matches as they also disposed of Drew (6-4) and Roger Williams (7-5) while losing a match to Ramapo (4-6).
Wilkes returns to the courts tomorrow for the second day of the Ranger Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m.
