Wilkes Tennis Teams Set for NCAA Championships on Friday
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's tennis teams are set for the 2019 NCAA Championship Tournaments on Friday.
 
The Wilkes men face Nichols College in the opening round of the tournament on Friday at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Amherst College. The Colonels posted a 14-6 mark this season while also going 7-0 in conference play. The Colonels ended the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Manhattanville College in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) championship match, which marked their 12th straight conference title. Wilkes has won four-straight first round games and are 6-3 in their last nine first round matchups.
 
Nichols enters the match with a 6-7 overall record, winning their first round matchup the past four years and own a 6-1 all-time mark in the NCAA Tournament. This will be the first ever meeting between Wilkes and Nichols in men's tennis.
 
The Wilkes women face The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in its opening round match on Friday at 10:00 a.m. on the campus of Mary Washington. The Colonels posted a 15-4 mark this season while also finishing 7-0 in MAC Freedom play winning its 13th consecutive conference crown in the process. Wilkes has won four of its past six first round matchups and are 6-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
 
TCNJ enters the match with a 16-4 overall record after capturing its 36th straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title this past fall. The Lions have won its first round matchup the past 10 years in the NCAA Tournament.
 
The two teams met in the first round of the tournament in 2015 as TCNJ posted a 5-0 victory over the Colonels.
 
Should either team win, they would face Amherst in the second round on Saturday in their respective tournaments.
