Kane Steps Down as Wilkes Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach
WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University men's and women's tennis head coach
Todd Kane has stepped down from his position as coach of the Colonels after serving in the role for three seasons.
Kane, owner and program director of TK Academy in Kingston, plans to take more of a role in the business as he steps away from coaching at Wilkes. At TK Academy, Kane organizes and implements cyber school academy where he develops high level training programs for elite tennis players.
"We want to thank Todd for everything he has done to move our tennis programs forward, especially during the transition to the Landmark Conference this past season," said Wilkes Athletic Director Scott Musa.
During his first season in 2021-22, Kane coached the men's and women's side into the MAC Freedom Finals.
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) was named the MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year and First Team All-MAC Freedom. Alexa Cieri and
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) were Second Team all-conference selections. Cole Gibson earned First Team All-MAC Freedom honors on the men's side. Dasha Yakhnis was named the MAC Women's Tennis Senior Scholar-Athlete in April of 2022.
In 2022-23 the women's team made the MAC Freedom Semifinals as the No. 3 seed with a 5-2 conference record. Amerise was named First Team All-MAC Freedom and
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) was Second Team.
This past season, Kane led both programs into their first seasons in the Landmark Conference and two more trips to the postseason. The men's team finished as the sixth seed falling in the first round of the tournament while the women's squad also captured the sixth seed losing in the first round of play.
Wilkes will begin a national search for its next tennis coach immediately.
