No. 14 Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey to Face No. 11 Colby College in First Round of NCAA Tournament

WILKES-BARRE - Following their first conference championship in program history this past weekend with a 2-1 victory over Arcadia, the Wilkes women's ice hockey team will be traveling to Colby College to play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.

The Colonels are currently sitting on a 22-4-1 record following their 2-1 victory over Arcadia in the MAC Championship finals this past Saturday. 

The team outscored their opponents 103-34 and were .189 percent on power plays (17-for-90) while killing off penalties at .916 percent (76-for-83). Wilkes had a strong performance in the faceoff circle this season, winning at a .579 percent rate. 

Sophomore forward Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) leads the team and is third in the conference in points with 30 total, averaging 1.11 per game. She is also second in the conference in goals with 19 total, averaging .70 per game. Nina Hudakova and Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) are seventh and eighth in the conference in goals with 13 and 11. Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) is second on the team in points with 25 and is second in the conference in assists with 17. Hudakova is third on the team in points with 24 and Ferry leads the team in shots with 133 leaving her third in the conference and is second on the team in assists with 12.

Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ) leads the team in plus minus with a plus 25 player rating followed by Hannah Franz (North Bay, ON) who is sitting on a plus 23 player rating, leaving them ranked second and fourth in the conference. Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT/) leads the team and is fifth in the conference in blocked shots with 46 and Ferry leads the team in faceoff wins with 226 followed by Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) with 220. 

Goaltender Audrey Milne (London, ON) started 24 out of 27 games and has a 19-4-1 record. Milne ranked third in the conference with a .931 save percentage as well as in goals against average with a 1.30. She recorded 419 total saves while earning five shutouts. 

This will be the first ever meeting between Wilkes and Colby College.

Colby College currency holds a 17-6-2 record and went 9-5-2 in NESCAC conference play, most recently falling to No. 2 Middlebury 3-0 in the NESCAC semifinals. 

The Mules outscored their opponents by a 62-35 margin and were strong in shots percentage with 62 goals on 825 shots. Colby killed off penalties at a .962 percent rate (51-for-53) and won faceoffs .567 percent of the time. 

Georgia Pettygrove leads the team in points with 16 along with Courtney Schumacher. Pettygrove also leads in assists with 11 and Breanna Studley and Schumacher lead the team in goals with eight total on the year so far. Pettygrove and Studley lead in plus minus with Pettygrove at a plus 18 and Studley at a plus 15 player rating. 

Studley is second in the NESCAC in power play goals with five and Anna Staton recorded a short handed goal for the Mules. Molly Lefebvre is second in the conference and leads the team in game winning goals with four on the season. Beth Sinson leads the team and is fourth in the conference in faceoff wins with 288.

Goaltender Mandy Busky went 11-2-2 this season, making 15 appearances across 25 games. She is third in the conference in goals against average with a .99 average and leads the conference in saves percentage at a .961. 

The winner of this game will advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and play Amherst College next Saturday, March 22.
