VanLuvender Steps Down as Wilkes Cross Country Head Coach, Uhing and Turnau Tabbed as Co-Head Coaches
WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University Athletic Director Scott Musa has announced that head men's and women's cross country coach Paul VanLuvender has departed his position due to full-time job commitments, and that
Jordan Uhing and
Joseph Turnau have been named co-head coaches ahead of the 2025 season.
VanLuvender, who was hired in 2022 as an assistant coach and elevated to head coach in 2023, saw the Colonels into the Landmark Conference and coached
Jack Thompson (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) to the team's first All-Landmark Conference selection in 2024.
Three runners posted eight of the best times in the men's program's history last season under VanLuvender, including a school-best time in the 8k.
"I want to thank Paul for his work over the last two years as our head coach," Musa said. He successfully transitioned us into the Landmark Conference and mentored our first-ever All-Landmark honoree. We wish him well with his future plans."
Uhing and Turnau will take over the program, in addition to their positions as assistants on Wilkes' strength and conditioning staff. Uhing, who enters her fifth year at Wilkes in 2025-26, brings experience as an assistant coach with Wilkes softball, while Turnau begins his second year at Wilkes.
"Jordan and Joey are perfect candidates to take over the cross-country programs," said Musa. "Their backgrounds in strength and conditioning make them well-suited to work with our student-athletes and I look forward to seeing them flourish in this new role."
The Colonels take to the track to open the 2025-26 campaign on Friday, August 29 at the Misericordia Invitational in Dallas, Pa.
