EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team clinched its eleventh straight trip to the MAC Freedom Tournament with a sweep of local rival Misericordia University 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.
 
Wilkes remains unbeaten at 17-0 on the year and a perfect 4-0 in conference matches. Misericordia dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in league matches.
 
Wilkes stormed out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play with wins from all three doubles pairs by scores of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-2.
 
Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) then opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 followed by a 6-4, 6-1 victory from Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) at No. 2. Taylor Hoffmann (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland), Grace Graham (Rockville Centre, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) all took their singles matches in straight sets at No. 3 through 5 before Alanna Denauski (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) sealed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
 
Wilkes remains idle through the Easter holiday before its next match at Dickinson College on Monday at 4:00 p.m. in Carlisle, Pa.
