Wilkes Basketball Finishes Regular-Season Contests at Delaware Valley

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams will conclude their regular season matchups as they will head on the road in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) competition when they travel to Delaware Valley University on Saturday at Doylestown, Pa. The women's game will begin at 1:00 p.m. while the men's game will follow at 3:00 p.m.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes comes into the game with a 8-16 record on the season, holding a 7-8 conference record in the MAC Freedom this season. Wilkes is coming into the contest after winning back-to-back home games against Arcadia University and King's College, with the Colonels getting a layup with three seconds on the clock in overtime to down the Monarch's 56-54 on Tuesday night. The last time Wilkes took on Delaware Valley, the Colonels earned a 61-50 win over the Aggies on January 14th inside the Marts Center. Wilkes will look to get a push into the conference postseason as they would need a victory over Delaware Valley to lock their spot as the host in the MAC Freedom Play-In Game on Monday, February 20.
 
Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the Colonels in scoring with 9.4 points-per-game (ppg) which is tied for 14th in the MAC Freedom. Brenna Babcock (Sweet Valley, PA/Northwest Area) is second on the team with 6.7 ppg and Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is third with 6.2 ppg.
 
Matos leads Wilkes with 4.5 rebounds-per-game (rpg). Babcock is second with 4.0 rpg while Horton is third with 3.9. Julia Marino (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) is second in the MAC Freedom with 3.1 assists-per-game (apg), totaling 75 on the season.
 
Marino leads Wilkes with 75 steals, tied for sixth in the conference with 2.2 steals-per-game (spg). Matos follows behind with 39 steals and is 14th in the MAC Freedom with 1.7 spg. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) is sixth in the league with 1.3 blocks-per-game (bpg) with 31 total blocks this season.
 
Wilkes is seventh in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 52.1 ppg and fifth in scoring defense at 57.6 ppg.
 
Delaware Valley is 11-13 on the season and 7-8 in the MAC Freedom. The Aggies are 6-5 at home this year, with their last home contest being a 57-56 win over Misericordia University. Delaware Valley won their last contest against FDU-Florham 73-36 this past Tuesday
 
Haley Keenan leads Delaware Valley and the MAC Freedom with 15.9 ppg on the year. Alexis Wright and Maisie Neuber are right near each other on the team and in the conference, with Wright being 10th with 10.4 ppg while Neuber is 11th in the MAC Freedom with 10.0 ppg.
 
Wright is fourth in the conference with 8.0 rpg while Neuber follows behind as she is eighth in the MAC Freedom with 7.0 rpg. Sophie Chevres leads the team with 2.8 apg, tying her for sixth in the conference. Keenan is second in the conference with 3.0 spg while Chevres is tied for sixth with 2.2 spg.

Neuber is fourth in the conference for field goal percentage, shooting 44.4% this season.

Delaware Valley is fourth in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense with 59.5 ppg and sixth in scoring defense at 58.9 ppg.
 
Delaware Valley leads the series 18-9 over the Colonels since the 09-10 season.
 
Men's Preview:
Wilkes comes into the contest with an 12-12 overall record and 7-8 in MAC Freedom play. Wilkes enters this game after scoring in triple digits for the first time this season as they rolled over King's 100-57 this past Tuesday. In the last matchup against Delaware Valley, the Colonels took a 73-62 victory over the Aggies inside Marts Center on January 14th. The Colonels will need to get some help to make the MAC Freedom Play-In game as they need to win over Delaware Valley and have FDU-Florham to go on the road and beat Misericordia.
 
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) leads the Colonels in scoring with 13.5 ppg, which puts him eighth in the MAC Freedom. Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) follows behind on the team and in the conference as he places 12th in the conference as he averages 12.5 ppg, with Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) being third with 10.6 ppg. Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) and Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) round out the Colonels scorers with 9.6 and 7.9 respectively.
 
Fisher is fourth in the conference with 7.6 rpg as he leads the Colonels in that category. Marshall follows with 5.6 rpg which is 12th in the league. Merrifield is tied for second in the conference with 3.5 apg while Zvorsky is tied for 10th with 2.8 apg.

Merrifield is fifth in the conference with a 39.3% from beyond the arc with his 44 made three-pointers. Fisher is third in the conference with a .571 field goal percentage and fifth with 1.4 bpg. Zvorsky and Merrifield are tied for eighth in the MAC Freedon with 1.3 spg, Fisher follows suit as he is 13th in the conference.
 
Wilkes is third in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense with 71.3 ppg while ranking second in scoring defense at 64.8 ppg, which is 39th overall out of 413 Division III teams currently.
 
Delaware Valley enters with a 12-12 overall record this season with a 7-8 conference record. The Aggies are 5-5 at home this season, winning three out of their last four contests inside James Work Gymnasium. The last game Delaware Valley playe was on Tuesday against FDU-Florham, where the Aggies won against the Devils 69-46.
 
Justin Savage leads Delaware Valley in scoring as he averages 11.3 ppg. Godly Marc is second on the team with 9.2 ppg. Tyriq Toney-Bailey and Jordan Gombs round out the scoring with 7.4 ppg and 6.9 ppg respectively.
 
Zoelin Pair is tied for seventh in the conference with 12.0 rpg. Ewens Lizima is 13th in the MAC Freedom as he averages 2.7 apg with 62 assists on the season. Pair is eighth in the MAC Freedom with 1.0 bpg while Marc and Lizima are the top two players in the conference with steals as they average 2.0 and 1.9 spg respectively.
 
Marc leads the team in shooting percentage as he shoots 43.0% on the field. Casey Caruso is fourth in the MAC Freedom with a .395 three-point percentage as he is 34-for-68 on the year.
 
Delaware Valley is sixth in the MAC Freedom in scoring with 67.1 ppg and fifth in scoring defense with 66.6 ppg.
 
The Aggies leads the series 17-12 since the start of the 08-09 season.
