A standout performer on the wrestling mat for the Colonels during his three and one-half years at Wilkes… a transfer from Columbia University, the heavyweight compiled a career dual match record of 27-13-2 during his time at Wilkes…made his biggest impact during his junior and senior seasons…as a junior he compiled an overall record of 25-7 with eight victories by pin, while also registering a 13-5 dual match record with three wins by fall…that same season he finished second at the NCAA Division III Championships to help the Colonels claim the team national championship…they also compiled a team dual match record of 13-5 during the campaign and won the MAC championship…one season later Scharer helped Wilkes post a 12-2-1 dual match record, while also playing a pivotal role in the team claiming their seventh consecutive MAC crown…he ended the year with an overall record of 18-12-1 with 10 wins by fall and finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships to help the Colonels earn a fourth-place finish as a team.
