Olexy shined on the mat wrestling under legendary head coach John Reese during the late 1960s. Olexy was a part of two Middle Atlantic Conference Championship teams in 1966 and 1967 with individual finishes of fourth at 177-pounds in 1965 and second at heavyweight in 1967.
Olexy earned All-American status in 1966 when he finished sixth at the NCAA College Division Championships at 177-pounds. Olexy was part of the Colonels squad which ranked No. 1 in the country throughout the season in 1966 on way to a second place finish at the Small College Championships. Wilkes finished 44-5 over Olexy's four-year career in the Navy and Gold.
