A four-year performer in volleyball, played three years of basketball, and played one season of softball for Wilkes during her four-year career… earned four varsity letters in volleyball and served as a team captain during her senior season in 1982…as a senior she played an integral role in helping Wilkes finish with an overall record of 16-6…that same year the Lady Colonels won both the Northeastern Pennsylvania Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Association (NPWIAA) and the MAC Northeast championships…had 106 kills and 61 service aces as a senior, was selected to the MAC and NPWIAA All-Conference teams…during her junior season on the volleyball court Van Riper was equally impressive…she cracked 130 kills, including a then school-record 21 in a match against FDU-Madison… also contributed 48 service aces on her way to earning NPWIAA first team honors… was also named the Lady Colonels Offensive Most Valuable Player…was an active member of the Letterwomen’s Club during her time at Wilkes… was also the first female Sports Editor of the Beacon from 1981 to 1983, and served as the Managing Editor for the Beacon during the 1982-83 school year.
